Book Review - FLIGHT # 116 IS DOWN!

Flight # 116 is down!

by Caroline B. Cooney

This books is about the rescue operations of Flight # 116 crashed at isolated place near New York City.

The main aim of the book, as what I understood, is to learn to respect the volunteer working as rescue workers.  In such emergencies with limited capacity, keeping asides their own emotions they do their duties.

The story starts at Saturday 5.05 P.M. and ends at Sunday, 12:48 A.M..  Although there is lot of scope for describing gloomy & dark side of crash scenes, the author remain human enough to keep such details to essentials & minimum.

The main character of the story goes through roller coaster of emotions &  tries to understand life, death, emergency & helping.

Good book to read for young ones,

Book Review - The Alchemist

The Alchemist - By Paulo Cohelo

This is one of world's best seller book & leaves big impact on the mind of the reader.

The story is layered, each & every word, sentence, paragraph contains life's secrets. The story in about a Spanish shepherd who is young, coureagous & believed in his dreams. While following his dream, at every steps he finds obstacles & desire to return back. In few cases, he become contended with his achievement & decides to stop there. However something keeps him moving towards his dream destination. In his persuit, he keep on learning all the way, which helps him to understand the world's secrets, world's universal language & how to live the life.

The story unfolds with lots of lessons of life. After the more demanding situations & more dangers, the boy, by not changing his path / mind, reaches his ultimate goal. While reading the story, at various places I found that I have came across such problems & forced to choose path ahead. There are always two choices, one easy but futile other correct but difficult. I guess I should have read this book earlier, my vision of life would have been more clear.

Any ways, I can not claim that I have understood all the messages or entire book but it is one of good book I have ever read.

Book Review - Isadora Ki Prem Kathayen

"My Life" by Isadora Duncan

Hindi Translation - "Isadora Ki Prem Kathayen" - by Shri Yugank Dheer.

"My Life" is autobiography written by Isadora Duncaun & I have read its hindi translation by Shri Yungank Dheer.

I always like to read the auto-biography, it shows up his/her sides of the story & I really enjoy to understand his/her view points & what he/she think, what he/she feel, why & how he/she reacts.

I think that the translator should not have changed the title from My life to Isadora ki prem kathayen. This title is not proper. It creates feeling of n' no. of love scenes & exciting love phases of Isadora & it misguides the reader. The hindi title do not have any significance with the context of books' content.

Ok now lets on move to Isadora's my life. This is the auto biography of a American girl, who is considered as inventor & founder of today's modern dance. She was brave, intelligent, rebel & revolutionary by nature. In the early years of life, she never feared & able to cope with any situations. She was firm believer in her self & very confident. She believed that she found out the true joy & her dancing method is the one who correlates with nature. Her natural dance style was her own inventions & now known as modern dance & was become very famous for her dancing style & love affairs in entire Europe. At that time, ballet was very popular but its dancing style was rather aerobic & without any real emotions and insisted on strict / unnatural postures & gestures. She brought the welcome change in dancing method & as described in her book her dances takes the audience to heighest level of enjoyment.

Her personal life has seen various ups & downs. She was unable to control her expenses & easily got impressed by men. She was also chasing so many dreams like building temple, start dancing schools, teach dance to young girls etc. etc.. It required lots of money & it compelled her to organise public performances however she never liked to perform for commercial reasons. She wanted that her performance should be free for all.

Her life's major problem was never ending conflict between her dance & her love. Her love affairs draws away from the dance however when affair ends she felt depressed. To come out of depression, she found solace in her dance. Her life's biggest tragedy was loss of her two children in accident.

The book concluded when she moved to Russia where USSR Govt has offered her to settle down there & run her dance school with their help.

The translator has given the brief account of her remaining life.

You can get more information about her in following link :-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isadora_Duncan

As I already said, I like to read the auto biography. I liked this book too & enjoyed her writing. She has written in simple & layman language. Her dreams & feelings expressed in her own words touched me. She was very open about her relationship & thoughts. I have browse the net for more information about her & I was fascinated by her work.

Book Review - Madam Bovary

Book Review - Madam Bovary

Madam Bovary - by Gustave Flaubert in French

Hindi translation by Shri Yugank Dheer

I have read the hindi translation of the Book "Madam Bovary" written by French writer Gustave Flaubert.

This is fictional story of Emma Bovary living at small town of French Province. Emma was married to doctor Charles Bovary & had a daughter "Berthe".

Emma was extremely beautiful, educated however had yearning for luxury & fantasy life. Her marriage with Doctor do not promised any bright future. After few years, Emma got frustrated with routine provincial life & she become impatient with the way her husband was. This lead to entry of various persons in her life as lovers. First one was shy young neighbor however that relationship do not flourish at that time. Second person was rich man & with sole purpose of seduction, he takes her on his web. Emma who has waiting for true love, finds this rich man as her perfect match & falls in his trap. After some time, that man leaves her, which results to horrible shock to Emma's emotion. She almost lost all her senses & falls ills. She take several months to recover. Her husband & the church priest took great care of her.

After recovering, she had another chance to encounter the earlier young neighbor. This time their relationship brokes all the barriers. Once again in the search of love & luxury Emma get carried far away from her husband. However Charles never suspected her & always try to amend his ways to make her happy. During all this, she started living extravagantly & created the mountain of debts.

Unable to pay the debts, she took drastic step which ultimately results into ruining entire family.

The book (earlier published chapter wise in paper) generated lots of controversies at that time because of its notorious story.

The complete details about the book & author can be found on the following links.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame_Bovary

A hindi movie "Maya Memsaab" is also based on this story.

I liked the book for its writing style & the way story develops.

Voting in Maharahtra on 13/10/2009

On 13/10/2009, Maharaashtra's Vidhan Sabha polling was concluded & voter turnout was around 50%. With comparision of previous polls, 50% voting considered to be within normal average. However as regards to intense publicity & awareness compaign carried out by Govt. & NGOs on print & TV media, it appears that everything gone to drain. No amount of motivation is enough for voters to queue up at polling booth.

Common man is already depressed due to increased cost of living & financial woes. The common man of today is coupled with so many problems & fighting at so many ends he is least worried about the voting.

Additionally, mismanagement & non-skilled work of Election Commission further added to this cause.

Since the voting is optional, only few prepares themselves for this adventure. I like to salute all those, who voted, which largely includes Sr. Citizens, Youngsters & honest citizens.

I also wish to inform you that I have not voted as I was on Election Duty.

I also appreciate the sincerity, dedication & hard work of all the personnel engaged in Election Duty.  Due to their combine & dedicated efforts, this huge task is completed without much trouble.

I hope in future voting becomes mandatory & also convenient for voters so that India will be truly known as 100% Democratic Nation.

Book Review - The Secret

The Secret - by Rhonda Byrne.

This is one of the most fascinating & powerful book on positive thinking (as per my thinking).

To write anything about this book, I had to read twice.

Even afer reading twice, I am unable to say anything about it fully, whatever I am writing will be understatement only.

The book contains several thoughts, action plans, success stories & way of life.  The book is full of positive enegy.

It preaches three steps : ASK, FEEL & RECEIVE.

The Secret is "Law of Attraction".

Whatever you ask (you have to declare that you what this)  & you belive that it will reach to you ( you have to act as if you have already received the thing) , then  you will definitely get the desired things as it get attracted towards you because of your request & your behaviour, -

may it be girlfriend, money, career, peace of mind, healthy body, status, home etc. etc. .

Actually, Shah Rukh Khan's dialogue in Om Shanti Om  movie sums up the teaching in most interesting way -

"Agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho to puri kayanat usey tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai"

There are n' number of school of thoughts for effectiveness of book.

I feel that it is upto us what to get from this book.

New Tata Sky Plus Ad

Recently I have seen Tata Sky Plus Ad featuring Aamir Khan.

In the said ad, Aamir Khan holding damaged head lamp of car & explaining that to see a cricket match, you need not rush to your home which may cause accident.  You can record it & view it afterwards in your TATA SKY PLUS connection.  Then, he smirked and says, oh you might not having it.   So its your bad luck (that is what he trying to tell us).

I am surprised that such type of humilating ad is from TATA GROUP.  I am not expecting this heartless & sick mentality ad from TATA GROUP.  I am not making scapegoat of AAMIR KHAN eventhough I dont like him.  He is doing his job perfectly & irritates all the viewer.

Dear TATA Group, just hang on & dont stoop too low in this competitive world.

Mujhe Ghar Le Chalo – Taslima Nasreen ( Aatma Katha -5)

Taslima Nasreen is now well known personality, born in Bangaldesh & exiled from her country due to her writing about Islam.

Majhe Ghar Le Chalo is translated in Hindi by Ms. Sushil Gupta.

The book is about her experiences after leaving her country & her stay in Sweden.

She was invited by the entire world & praised by all the European countries for her courage & daring.  She has written about her stay at various countries, about the citizens of these countries, the surroundings, habits of people, good & bad things about various places. She actually takes you with her to visit various places.  The book contains many of her poems.

Her writing is very good & it brings out her personality as strong & straight headiness.  She is independent, strong, rebellion by nature. Her writing shows that she follows different path & is never afraid of taking side of truth or what she believes to be true or fair.

It is not ironical that in the ocean of people, she finds herself alone.  Actually she found herself trapped.  Basically she is hard core Bangaladeshi & soft hearted woman  & unable to align herself in foreign land.  She is desperate to return to her country & her writing shows her true love for her matrubhumi (birth place).

Good to read to experience her writing & knowing various places & people,

Hindi Book - Objection Mr. Lord

Hindi Book - "Objection Mr. Lord" by Nirmala Bhuradia

The above novel is about the story of Madhavi borne & raised in joint Marvadi Family. Her father expired when she was small, due to some family problems her mother also left her. The story moves with Madhavi. Madhavi is fearless, intelligent & rebel type girl. For her, each & every situations brings out basic questions of womanhood & its problems.

The story runs parallel at different levels, lots of character comes in & fades away. Lots of things do not end at particular point. There is hardly any characterization as large number of characters are woven in the story. Madhavi remains alone eventhough she got married. She failed to find her true love.

She was destined to remain alone but finds a path & reason for living at the end.

What I observe that story narration is good but somehow lots of things are happening but nothing actually matters. Madhavi choose to remain silent at various occasions & that puzzles me. Further, the novel has tried to show other side of press (news paper) however it has not effectively come out. One more thing I am not able to correlate is the title of the novel & the story.

Good for one time reading,

Do you believe in genies?

Dear Friends,

I have got mail & liked it very much & can not resist myself to post it on my blog,

just enjoy....

Husband takes his wife to play her first game of golf.

Of course, the wife promptly hacked her first shot right through the window of the biggest house adjacent to the course.

The husband shouted , 'I warned you to be careful! Now we'll have apologize and see how much your lousy drive is going to cost us.'

So the couple walked up to the house and knocked on the door.

A warm voice said, 'Come on in.' When they opened the door they saw the damage that was done: glass was all over the place, and a broken antique bottle was lying on its side near the broken window.

A man reclining on the couch asked, 'Are you the people that broke my window?'

'Uh...yeah, sir. We're sure sorry about that,' the husband replied.

'Oh, no apology is necessary. Actually I want to thank you. You see, I'm a genie, and I've been trapped in that bottle for a thousand years. Now that you've released me, I'm allowed to grant three wishes. I'll Give you each one wish, but if you don't mind, I'll keep the last one for myself.'

'Wow, that's great!' the husband said. He pondered a moment and blurted out, 'I'd like a million dollars a year for the rest of my life.'

'No problem,' said the genie. 'You've got it, it's the least I can do. And I'll guarantee you a long, healthy life!'

'And now you, young lady, what do you want?' the genie asked. 'I'd like to own a gorgeous home complete with servants in every country in the world,' she said.
'Consider it done,' the genie said. 'And your homes will always be safe from fire, burglary and natural disasters!'

'And now,' the couple asked in unison, 'what's your wish, genie?'

' Well, since I've been trapped in that bottle and haven't been with a woman in more than a thousand years, my wish is to sleep with your wife.'

The husband looked at his wife and said, 'honey, you know we both now have a fortune, and all those houses. What do you think?'

She mulled it over for a few moments and said, 'You know, you're right. Considering our good fortune, I guess I wouldn't mind, but what about you, honey?'

'You know I love you sweetheart,' said the husband.

'I'd do the same for you!' So the genie and the woman went upstairs where they spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying each other. The genie was insatiable.
After about three hours of non-stop fun, the genie rolled over and looked directly into her eyes and asked, 'How old are you and your husband?'

'Why, we're both 35,' she responded breathlessly.

'Really?! Thirty-five years old and both of you still believe in genies?'

Book - Edwina Aur Nehru (hindi)

Book – Edwina Aur Nehru (Hindi)
By Catherine Clamma
Hindi Translation : Nirmala Jain,

This book is written by French Writer Catherine Clamma & translated in Hindi by Nirmala Jain.

As per the original writer, in France, people are least interested in simple & happy ending love story. French people are drawn to unusual love story, which ends, on parting of lovers. Love stories between rich & poor, one caste & other caste, love story which has tragedy as destiny.

The love story of Nehru & Edwina perfectly fells in this league. Nehru, the representative of suppressed / slave country & Edwina the symbol of ruling Country. Both are married & met each other when there was no place /t ime for love. Love in this case was not ordinary & hence it is perfect story for French people.

Being an Indian, I read the story with suspicious mind. I hoped that there is no such love between both of them. This woman should, not have influenced the decision of our First Prime Minister. The faith of India (& Pakistan) should not have been decided by the game played by Lord Mountbatten & his wife, Edwina.

The book has span of around 40 years & depicted the various phases of Edvina & Nehru’s life & relationship. It also narrates our freedom movement, pre & post independence challenges before Indian leaders & about Gandhiji.

Edwina, the wife of Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, having dubious past records & her relationship with husband was turbulent. However she was also devoted to help the war displaced people.

Lord Mountbatten, when arrived in India, had tough task ahead. British council was in the final phase of taking decision about freedom of India & he has to ensure that transfer of power from England to India should be carried out smoothly. However the road was not smooth for Mr.Mountbatten, there are countless problems like Jinha’s demand of Pakistan, Gandhi’s opposition of partition, demand of freedom by independent Kings, ruling at that time.

The story travels through the most crucial time of Indian history. Nehru was widower at that time & was carrying heavy burden of representing our country. During this hard times, Nehru & Edwina finds true friend / companion in each other. As even after partition, Edwina was actively serving the Indian people displaced due to partition.

The writer has taken creative liberty & illustrated their love as platonic & divine. The flow of story is very good. While reading I started imagining Nehru as an ordinary man, who was in extra ordinary situation & as not as great person / political leader. I started realizing that he was really mentally taxed & doing his best. If he tried to find comfort in her, then I should not mind it. We know & sure that Nehru was 100% committed to India & his priority was India & Indian people only, everything come after that.

The book is silent about any physical relationship between both of them rather it does not suggest any thing about it. As per the book, it is just the great bonding between two individuals with different cultural background, met each other because of their destiny. They played pivotal & positive role in each & others life.

I feel that author has not revealed much about the height of their relationship & termed their love as extra ordinary. I think author was right in doing so as Indian people do not have mentality to accept that their leader was a weak man.

It is good as a book depicting love story but it can not be termed genuine book representating historical infomation.

Select Edition - Reader's Digest

Reader's Digest - Select Editions
1) The Murder Artist by John Case
2) Start From Here by Sean French
3) At Risk by Stella Riminton
4) The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
All the above stories are selected by Reader's Digest & printed as Select Editions.
I wish to write few things as under :-
The Murder Artist
by John Case

This is one of the gripping story I have ever read. It has kept me wondering what will happen next. It is the story of father, who's twin sons got lost in carnival. On learning that he is divorce, police suspects him. They also found some sort of evidence in the house. Even when he declared innocent, his problems do not finish as police were unable to trace his twins. He decided to take the investigation into his own hands. This starts his journey to various parts of world & he discover that his children are in grave danger. He has to act very fast & to fight a lone battle to save his children. Story has important angle & element of voodoo & magic. It is very terrifying & unnerving some times.
Start From Here
by Sean French
This is very different story explaining & wondering too, the role of Actuary (statistician) who based on some mathematical formula decide the trend of events. I am sure you do not understand what I am talking about.
The story has a thin line & basically play around with insurance fraud claims & free life of hero.
At Risk
by Stella Riminton
In this story, the pace is very slow & things do not get connected very clearly in first reading. Lots of things happening & slow pace reduces the impact. The story is about 2 terrorist planning a attack & group of British police countering them.
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
by Alexander McCall Smith
The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency is story about a lady detective Mma Ramotswe, who opens the detective agency & solves the mysteries around her neighborhood.
The story details the initial years of her life & goes on with her story of cracking cases to the satisfaction of her clients. Story is very interesting & I like reading it.

Books - Kahani & Manjarnama - By Gulzar

Dear Friends,
I have recently read 3 books in Hindi titled
Libaas – Kahani & Manjarnama
Aandhi -Kahani & Manjarnama
Meera - Kahani & Manjarnama

Manjarnama in Hindi refers to Situation as seen, it also refers to screen play or scenerio.

This books are actually the script of the movies made by Gulzar. The actual screen play & script, scene by scene is given in the book.

Earlier I have read Hututu – Kahani & Manjarnama also.

I have not seen movie Libaas, Aandhi or Meera.

All the movies made by Gulzar are known for realistic story, good songs, fine performances & flowing story narration.

I like to share my experience of reading,
Libaas is story of theatre artist couple & how their life changes when one friend enter into their life.

While reading the book, I felt that story is moving with each & every scene, the scenes are carring forward the story, actually not the story but to next scene / situation. It is also mentioned in the book itself that screen play was written even before the story finalised.

I like the concept in all & would love to see the movie for its lead Naseerudin Shah, Shabana Azami & Raj Babbar & it also have good songs.
Aandhi is story with politics background.

The leading lady breaks her marriage to pursue her political ambitions. After few years the man & woman meet each other in the middle of pre- election high drama. It leads to various events which ultimately bridge the gap between them. The main cast includes Sanjeev Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Om Prakash etc.

I had chance to see some glimpses of movie scenes, I really enjoyed watching Sanjeev Kumar in action. He was very brilliant actor & seeing him acting, with screen play in my hand, was delight.

Meera- Kahani & Manjarnama book contains the interview of Gulzar. It is must read for the persons who are interested to pursue their carrier in direction / film making.

Meera's story we all know, Gulzar has tried to cover important part of her life in the movie & reading the script (i.e. Book) I felt he has done justice. I would like to see the movie for Hema Malini (Meera) & Vinod Khanna.

On reading the above books I learn some thing about story telling (Meera). It has widen my horizon to think differently (Libaas) & see the things from other perspective(Aandhi).

A Good Poem by Mr. Rajiv Paul

This is a very good poem published in Hindustan Times Café on 04/05/2009. It is written by Mr. Rajiv Paul, TV actor.I have not taken formal permission from Mr. Rajiv Paul but I hope that Mr. Rajiv will will not mind it (as the same is on National News Paper).

Normally understanding poetry is not my forte. However some poems automatically make way for themselves. This poem also struck to me. I like it & hence sharing with my friends.

My Friends real life incidence

This is the real life incidence of my friend, presented by me based on our chat during lunch. I have taken due permission from him & with his consent I am posting this on my blog.
*****************************
Today we (myself & my cousin brother) are in soup.

We have to prove our innocence to our teacher that we are actually communicating with each other & not flirting with the girl. We are studying in IX standard & the year was 1992.

Actually, we have developed gesture ( hand – eye coordination ) language wherein one of us will convert the message into gesture & other one is to decode it. It is like I will decode his (my brother’s) gesture message, who will be standing few feet distance away from me.

It was started when we witnessed our age-old tradition at our house in village.

This tradition involves two persons; one will come to our house & will chat with our family member. He will ask the name of our great grand father -mother, grand father – mother, their siblings, their children etc. actually will ask our family tree.

In the meantime the other person who is standing with dhol far from our house will sing a povada (praise song) & keep on incorporating our fore fathers name wherever applicable based on the gestures of earlier man. The first man will through hand / body gesture communicate the required name & second man alongwith playing the dhol, sing a povada i.e. praising our family using the names of our ancestors.

This skill / peoples are known as Kuli ( not Cooli, but it refers to Kul – Caste, & Kuli means who brought fame to caste / person who earns honor for his caste).

My brother & me were very amused by their skills & decided to develop our own code language though we do not belong to their caste.

We started with alphabet & assigned one gesture to each. We found it easy & started practicing. We go on improving by making single gesture for a commonly used word like mother, father, moon etc.. We almost did it with perfection & now either he or me can code & decode our language easily. We demonstrate to our friends, where he based on information provided by one of our friend will communicate with me in gesture & I, who is standing at distance, keep on decoding it simultaneously.

Every one found it amazing & that keep us practicing more & more.

However our over enthusiasm cost dearly one day. My brother communicating me through his gesture standing in front of a house turned the wind. The girl inside the house assumed that he (my brother) is gesturing at her & either flirting or making fun of her. She came out & shouted at my brother. We all ran away.

As our luck ran out, she was our classmate & was not aware of our skill. She reported to our teacher that my brother is making gestures or flirting with her. When teacher asked about the same to my brother, he told the truth. We all rounded up by teacher & asked to prove our innocence by demonstrating the skill in entire class.

Now we are in soup, as we have not expected this. My teacher will provide the matter for communication. The matter was full page & handed over to my brother & I was to decode his gestures my standing in front.

Firstly I was very nervous, as single mistake will be term our entire skill as bluff & will be subject to severe punishment.

So, we have no option but to face the challenge. Once we started communicating, our confidence grew & successfully completed our task. Our teacher was very happy for our skill & convinced that my brother is not flirting with the girl. We feel relieved.

Our teacher asks us to be prepared for showcase our skill on Annual Day, which of course, we have to oblige. In any case, due to shortage of time we were not required to do it on annual day but we are happy that we can prove our innocence & skill.
********************

Hope you enjoyed it.

With love,

Recently I have seen, on recommendation from my friend, OCEAN 11 & OCEAN 12.

Ocean 11 is story of the biggest robbery planned & executed by Mr.Ocean along with help of his 10 buddies.

The first part of movie sets the atmosphere of biggest robbery plans by pick & choose of gang members. Mr. Ocean (George Clooney) & Mr. Rusty (Brad Pitt) are chief planner & they form the gang & also arranges the financer. Their plan is to rob LA Casino not 1 or 2 but total 3 casinos cash worth aprox. 150 Million Dollars.

The best part is how they get in & get out from the casino. The owner of Casinos loose all his cash along with his lady love. The lady love (Julia Roberts) was ex-wife of Mr. Ocean. He gets money as well as his love back.

I have never seen Gorge Clooney’s movie earlier, I like the way he is. He is cool guy & owner of pleasant personality. Brad Pitt at his best, with something or other in hand for eating, at all times.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

It prompted me to see OCEAN 12.

Ocean 12 film starts post 3 years, Ocean 11. All the guys are rich & enjoying their new life. Life for some people is fun for others boring. Some uneasiness felt in their routine normal life. They are not comfortable.

Now, the owner of Casino is back & knocking the doors each & every member of OCEAN 11. They have to pay back the sum they have looted along with the interest of 3 years.

All stunned & they have no option to come together to plan new robbery to pay back as their cash in hand is not enough, again interest thereon for 3 years add to their worries.

Actually the main culprit behind their misfortune is one smart thief & they have to beat him to save their souls.

It is little tricky & boring. Some times we don’t understand what happening how the best buddies are get caught up. At the end of the movie I feel that they are trying to fool everyone including the viewer.

In any case with this big cast & pressure of earlier successful film their effort is just at par.

I like the way; the film shows life of gang members post robbery. They are trying to normalise their living & lives the life they thought. However as hard as tries they feel they are unable to adjust themselves.

Their dream come true is not happening as expected. Everybody is some way or another frustrated with his or her new, normal, routine life. At one point of time, Mr. Ocean also vocalize that he always have the urge for doing something challenging like robbery even if he had more than enough money.

“Once a thief remains the same for life time”.

The film is not as good as Ocean 11, however One time view is Ok for Ocean 12.

With love,

Film : Italian Job

As I have decided to write my observation / comments / review on books & films, I am full on to BOOKS, watching MOVIES on DVD recommended movies by my friends.

I am still skipping some of the movies that I have recently seen viz.

Delhi 6 ( I don’t want to write bad review about a film made with genuine efforts but lost somewhere)
Slumdog Millionaire ( So much written about this film so not to waste myself)
Khoobsurat ( I have no capacity to write review which will convincingly tell my feelings, it is very feel good, family oriented, stress buster & well meaning movie. Must see for all).
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi ( I don’t feel to write anything about this movie, however music is good, specially the title song).

Now move on to English Movies I have seen, it includes 300, Darknight (Batman), Exorcism, Italian Job, Red Eyes, Ocean 11, Ocean 12 etc..

I am inclined to write review of Italin Job & Ocean Series, for 300 I have already written, & others will do on their merits.

First,

Italian Job,

This is movie about 6 thieves leaded by Charlie, the planner. One is dashing driver, one computer expert, one explosive expert, one master key-man (who can decode any locks) & one smart guy.

They plan to break the treasury full of gold bricks. The planning made by Charlie to the minute details & for each & every movements. They do successfully & their tricks to fool policy guys are awesome. However their joy of success vanish as that smart guy double cross them & take away all the money. He also tries to kill all but only one person i.e. master key-man got killed.

After 2/3 years, the same gang found out the smart guy & with the help of daughter of master key-man, plan to rob the smart guy.

It involves meticulous planning & they are against the person who knows their moves. All plans get tumbled down, again re-plans, new plans & lots of action…

The movie is good as far as action & tricks shown. I like the movie but not that much…

Book Review – To Kill A Mocking Bird

Book Review – To Kill A Mocking Bird

By Harper Lee

This book is really Timeless Classic of Growing up & The Human Dignity That Unites Us All. It was first published in 1960 & went to win the Pulitzer prize in 1961 & was later made into an Academy Award winning film, also a classic.

The author has set the background of the story in silent sleepy Southern Town of America. The story is about two children James & Jean Louise.

The story captures the growing up years of above two children. Their mother died early so their father Mr.Atticus is taking care of them.

The book gradually develops the story & introduce us the entire neighborhood one by one. Story takes us to Jean & James changing perceptions & attitudes over a period. Both had very good bonding.

Mr. Atticus (Father) was lawyer & destined to fight a case of Negro. At that time, any one helping / defending Negro was improper & against the socially accepted norms. He was inviting disgrace from all his relatives & friends. However major task for him was to help innocent Negro & also make sure that all these cheap talks, because of his stands, do not harm the children.

James & Jeans were taunted by schoolmates, relatives & nearby persons as their father is Negger loving (i.e. Helping Nego). He asked them to held your head high & ignore all this.

Mr. Atticus was learned man & take utmost care that his children do not learn bad things / manner / wrong notion. He can freely be approached by his child for all types of queries / questions. At one place, his tiny daughter asks him “What does rape means?”. He answered all their queries in dignified & understanding way. He handled them well too. He lives the life by example for his child.

The story have suspense, racism problem, tales of heroic & grit along with valuable lessons of human behavior during emergency times. It also rewind our childhood memories of adventures, revolt, fears of unknown places etc. etc.

I like the book very much, it helped me to understand lots of things about my behavior & to look at broad prospective of situations.

With love,

Khushal

Book Review - Mera Sangharsh - Hindi Translation of "Mein Kampf"

Book Review – Mera Sangharsh (in Hindi)
Hindi Translation of Mein Kamph - Autobiography of Mr. Adolf Hitlar

By – Dr.. N. L. Madan, MA, Phd.

I have read quite a few translated books & noticed that it lacks the impact of original book.

As far as this book is concern, I must say that Dr. N. L. Madan have very good command of Hindi language & his job of translation of this book is excellent.

The book is autobiography of Adolf Hitlar. It is account of his childhood to formation & struggling years of his political outfit. The book is voluminous it took lot of time to read. I was also not aware about the then political & historical background of the Germany & some of the information / details mentioned were could not be comprehended by me. Wherever Hitlar justifies his thought patterns & pen downs his thoughts considering the prevalent circumstances & future stands, it is delight to read.

He was very clear in his thoughts & firm on his stands. He had all the qualities of leadership & he was driven my the sole purpose of reviving the lost glory of Germany. He was ready to sacrifice everything & nation was above everything for him. He was also very critical about parliament governing the nation & was also not believed in Democracy too.

His thoughts like Jews were responsible for failure of Germany (he has theory for the same), Marxism is threat to nation, Germans are only having pure blood, no mixing of pure blood with inferior blood, to prosper means to conquer the World by War etc. etc. are deep rooted in his heart.

These are the same reasons, which influenced his life’s future deeds and the rest is history as we know.

The book comes to end where his political outfit is gaining the momentum & ultimately German ruling bodies ban his outfit.

I could gather & understand the book only because of the good translation & I have never felt that any impact is lost. I like to praise once again Dr. N. L. Madan for his marvelous work.

As the book says, the reason for translation of this book is not to highlight the shortcomings of Hitlar. The book is to showcase that he was true lover of his motherland & highly motivated for betterment of his Nation. His burning desire to do anything for Nation & wiliness to sacrifice for noble cause is what India & Indian People needs to understand. This may lead to motivate us to place our Nation above everything.

FASHION - Film Review

Film Review – Fashion

Directed by Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar

Main Cast : Ms.Priyanka Chopra, Ms. Kangna Ranawat, Ms.Mugdha Godse

Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar is one of the finest director of Mumbai Film Industry. (I don’t’ use the word - Bollywood).

His first movie was Trishakti (Badly Flopped), then came, Chandani Bar toplining Tabu (It was huge hit), then I think Satta (Ravina Tondon), Page 3 (Konkana Sen Sharma), Corporate (Bipasha Basu), Traffic Signal ( Kunal Khemu, Neetu Chandra). In between one action flick with Akshay Kumar – Aan –Men at Work (flopped) was also came.

He is talented & handled women centric movie very well.

His recent movie “Fashion” is shown that he is guru in this field.

Fashion is not the story about fashion or glamour world. It is the story of Meghna Mathur, a small town girl who wants to conquer Glamuor Hub Mumbai & to become a Model .. no Super Model. The story moves with her journey from bottom to top & again nose-diving to bottom in the fashion world. The story gets progressive when same girl try to make come back.

The movie depicts the small town girl with attitude & luck climbs up the ladder of success & how her attitude turns to arrogance & ultimately her failure & exit from the fashion world. Whilst making comeback she have to struggle more hard than the earlier.

Ms Priyanka Chopra plays the character of Meghna, alongwith her, Ms. Kangan Ranawat dons the character of Ex Super Model & Ms. Mughda Godse (debuting from modeling to Films) as struggling model. Ms. PC has done good job & delivery her performance with ease. But the Ms. KR steals the show. Her characterization & acts is too good. For Ms. MG, considering her first movie, looks good & promising.

I would like to make special mention of the music of the film. As compared to Mr. Madhur Bhandarkars’ earlier movies, this movies music is very good, all the songs like Jalwa, Fashion Ka Hain Yeh Jalwa, Mar Jawa Meet Jawa, Kuch Khas Hain. I like the music very much. The music is composed by Mr. Salim Suleiman duo.

This movie is schedule to telecast on TV – UTV Movies most probably this week end,

See it & enjoy, ( However beware UTV Movies drags last portion of movie too much),

Film Review - "300"

Film Review – 300

This is the bang on movie.

I have read the review of this movie in Gujarati Paper. The writer was very amused by movie & applauded very much. I thought I should see the movie.

At that time, movie was out of theater & only recourse left was to see in DVD. I have recently purchased DVD player & was trying to get the DVD of “300” from my friend but of no use. My friend Prasad was also floored by the movie & strongly recommended me to see that movie.

One fine evening ultimately I purchased a DVD which contained 5 movies, one was “300”.

This long wait has increased by expectations from the movie.

The same night, I have seen this “Jabardast movie”. The movie is marvelous & worth seeing.

This is the story from ancient Europe and about SPARTIAN. Spartians are the people who are known for their bravery. At the time of birth of new child, if he/she is not perfect, they killed them. Each & every child of spartian goes through rigorous training & become the perfect warrior. The warrior, who will never run away from the battleground, never will bent their knees against the rivals. They will kill or be killed.

The movie is about 300 spartians fighting against lacs of soldiers. They chalked out such a perfect plan to counter the rivals that only 300 spartians keeps on killing lacs & lacs of rival soldiers.

The action, editing, photography, story narration, styling of the movie is at its best.

I do not know the lead actors but their performance where up to the mark.

I can write lot about the movie but to understand its impact you have to see the movie. Those who have seen this movie will agree with me.

I am planning to see movie once more.

This is must see for all people except those who do not like action flicks & / or war movie showing killings all over.

Book Review - One Night @ call center

One Night @ the call Center

By Chetan Bhagat

This book is the second book of Mr. Chetan Bhagat, his previous one titled “Five Point Someone”.

His first book was based on IIT Campus, for 2nd book he has taken the story premises based on call center.

I like the story & the concept. Even if the things illustrates in the book is imaginary but situations are too real. We can identify with the characters.

As story goes, this is about group of call center guys n gals, earning hefty but not satisfied with the way their life is going on. Each one has his / her own sad story. All the hell broke loose, when on that particular night each & every persons meet with rejection / disappointment / frustration. Every body had a bad night that day. To make the situation worse their sumo (while they are out of their center -"without permission") lands on pit of under construction building & just about to fall down deep. All were almost preparing for their end. At such time, guess who, GOD calls them.

I will not like to kill the interest by revealing further, please help your self by reading the book.

I am only skeptical about the entire episode of authors’ prologue & Epilogue. I am sure all these things are fantasy. In any case, author has genuinely put his efforts to built it up.

Further I am very thankful to the person who has given me this book to read. After reading the book I found new confidence about my writing. I have my own doubts about my writing but after reading this book I dared to think that I can pull it through.

Wish me best luck,

With love,

Khushal

Book -The Thousand Splendid Suns

The Thousand Splendid Suns

- Khaled Hossein

I once again want to thank my colleague for giving me nicest books to read,

This book is based on the backdrop of disturbed Afghanistan. The story revolves in the era of Pre-Taliban period, Taliban dominated Afganistan period & current states i.e. US invaded times.

The story has two main characters Mariam & Laila.

Mariam born with a harami tag, suffers all types of known pains during her life. There is hardly any moment when she is really happy. Her happy moments are the moments she accepted as happy moments but as such there is no joy in her life. I really felt sorry for her character. God has given her choicest problems to suffer in her entire life.

Laila also get in troubled times but her life do not start with bad things. She had education, lover, loving father & determination. She also tastes pain, as she was a woman living in Afganistan in taliban dominance.

The destiny holds the premises where both find anger & ultimately solace with each other.

It is true that in war, whoever wins but “WOMEN” always loose. However when war is within the country, not only WOMEN but children also loose.

The story is very neatly told & at times tastes your ability to digest pains.

The story is very gripping & it was very hard for me to leave the book down.

Once I started reading book, I was always wondered how it will end. The end is very good & shows hope for future.

I like the book & concept,

With love,

Book - “KNOW THYSELF”

“KNOW THYSELF”
by Shri G. K. Pradhan

Some of the books are prized possessions. Know Thyself is one of such book. I really enjoy the reading of this book & I must confess that I will not part away with this book (if that is not possible then I will buy new one).

The book start with train journey, of 6 different persons from Delhi to Mumbai. The six persons were one lawyer (author), businessman, Professor, Principal (lady), Father (Christian Priest) & Swamiji.

Swamji, the enlightened soul, preaches on various subjects, clear doubts on various universal problems of fellow passengers. Their journey towards self-realization does not end with the train journey. They meet again for further teachings from Swamji.

The main core or thought of the book is the title itself.

Swamiji emphasized, on understanding “oneself”, instead of following any religion, guru or japp, procedures etc.

I am proud to admit that I could not get 1% of the book. We have to read between the lines to understand the message. I know I am not at stage to understand the smallest point of the great thoughts. Still I feel somewhere in my heart I got some hint. I am sure that over a period when I become more mature / aware I could at least understand some part.

It is must read for all, it is beneficial & thought provoking.

Tejasvi Man – Mahashakti Bharat ki Nivn

Tejasvi Man – Mahashakti Bharat ki Nivn

Author – Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Hindi Transalation : - Shri Arun Tiwari

I am lucky that I am living in the era where Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, can share his thoughts, visions & guide us for betterment of ourselves & our country.

Long back I have read one book authored by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, “Agni Pankh” & recently I have read (in Hindi) “Tejasvi Man – Mahashakti Bharat Ki Nivn”.

The book “Tejasvi Mann” is honest attempt of author to guide the young generation of our country to make our India, Developed nation by 2020. The book is dedicted to 12th standard girl Snehal Thakkar, who has raised the fundamental question of “who is our enemy?”.

The book comprises of various experiences of author, his thoughts with relation to education, religion, politics, our strength, challenges ahead & our ability to realize the goal.

I am too little a person to comment about this book. However I believe that I can write my feelings that occurred to me while reading the book.

With due respect to his writing & intentions, I feel somewhere the message is lost. The message is not clear, the book is missing something may be a link between the chapters. Too much subjects are attempted & does not ended with its impact. It may possible that the book is originally written in English & whilst translated in Hindi, somewhere get out of the track. I do not intend find any fault with translation but I still feel that the book is lacking its impact.

I may be wrong & dumb enough to comprehend the book, but this is what I felt,

Oh, last but not the least, I would like to read following books, listed by author as references: -

(please don’t’ mind spelling mistakes if any, as the list was given in Hindi)

- “India 2020 – A vision for the New Millenium” – Shri A P J Kalaam & Shri Y S Rajan, Wiking 1998

- “Tirukkural”- Tiruvallur
